Not Guilty

Pilate washed his hands
Turned around and said,
"Surely this man's not guilty."

But Barrabas he freed
While the crowd still screamed,
"Crucify the One 'not guilty'!"

Whips quickly cracked
Across His innocent back.
The soldiers knew He was not guilty.

Still, His flesh was torn
And His blood was poured
But the man'd been found not guilty.

He then carried His cross;
It was His final walk.
He knew He was not guilty.

Nails pierced the hands
And the feet as well
Of this One who was not guilty.

His body now crushed,
And offered gall on a sponge,
He lamented "I'm not guilty."

Cries rose as He asked,
"Father, why Me have You forsaken?
Surely I'm not guilty!"

With that He breathed His last
A lifeless body on the mast.
The body of One now guilty.

With His blood now spilled
A New Covenant fulfilled
Now I'm the one not guilty.
